Statement in Support of Black Lives

As an organization and as individuals, we at Climate Breakthrough are compelled to speak out in the wake of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. We join the voices of millions of people across the globe calling for an end to all violence, and especially police violence, targeting Black people in the United States.

As an institution dedicated to solving the climate crisis, we believe in a world that is safe and livable for all people; we believe in democratic systems that can be safely reformed through demonstration and action; and we believe in government institutions that support and protect people instead of hurt them. We acknowledge that climate change will disproportionately impact communities of color in the United States and around the world. We share the view of Heather McGhee of Demos that “We’ve got to divest from systems that are killing us and costing us, and invest in our people and our planet.” 

We will keep our statement brief, as now is the time to amplify the voices of others. We stand in solidarity with M4BL against systemic racism and white supremacy.
